Why Aericam?

AeriCam—is functional designs with a touch of aesthetic, by professionals for professionals. All our designs’ primary goals are to address problems professional aerial photographers are facing, such as vibration, radio interference, ability to operate in wider range of weather condition and of course look good in front of clients. We put them through rigorous tests before we put them in your hands.

All our camera mount utilize a ultra wide side frame of 2.5”(63.5mm) with heavy duty 3/8”(9.5mm) shafting and bearings to address the biggest issues that aerial platforms are facing, Vibration. Through our years of experience, we find vibration will amplify in weak, flexing camera mounts, thus we set out to create the strongest, while try to keep them light.

To address radio interference, all our products currently incorporate G10 composite as the primary structure material. The main reason we use G10 is it’s non conductive property, which we feel are ideal for aerial platforms, as it does not interferes with radio frequency, where as Carbon Fiber and Aluminum does. Now you will be certain to have the longest and most robust radio connection and mount receiver anywhere on the frame. And your investments now have a much better odd against lost reception, a piece of mind for aerial photographers. Another advantage G10, is its ability to dampen harmonics and vibrations, which means easier to achieve clean videos.

Another big issue aerial photographers face is weather condition, primary high wind and hot climates. When designing our complete aerial platforms, we don’t just design for absorbing vibrations, we want them to be able to film even in 30 mph winds, not that you should, but if you are filming on production sets, sometime you only have one day to film, whether it’s windy, or not, the goal is to get the shot, not grounded. Our early prototypes are base around a suspension design to absorb vibration, works great in most situation, but one time working on a production out of the country and we only have one day to film, that date happen to be very windy in the 20 to 25mph range, the flowing camera mount design, fought the helicopter in high wind conditions, causing it to be grounded. Since, we set our goal to make our aerial platforms be able to film in 30 mph winds; therefore, we design our camera mount and heli to be one solid structure, no flex and movement between camera mount and helicopter to achieve the solid, connected flight characteristic in wide wind conditions. And we achieve vibration isolation through dampeners on camera mounting plate and structural rigidity. We recently did a shoot in the Sahara Desert with the AeriCam 360, during both shooting dates, it was over 30 mph wind, my camera operator, whose also an accomplish helicam operator told me not to risk the heli, as there’s no way we can film in this condition. I insisted to give it a try and we got the shots that were needed, not grounded.

Hot climates are another huge problem and can cause ESC and motor failure, which can cause aerial platform crashing down. We are proud to say, we are the first company to address this problem. Through the years of filming in hot New York summers, we always felt unease when climates are over 90 F, we always have the fear of overheating ESC and motors, so we allow cooling in between flights. And recently, we had a job in the Sahara, since temperatures were well over 120F in Sahara, we know there’s no way the motor and ESC will be cooled down between flights. Therefore, we modified the helicam with 2 micro cooling fans, one for motor and one for ESC, the combo allow us flying in 120F condition continuously without cooling between flights, while motor and ESC are just few degrees above ambient temperature. We will offer this feature on our current and future aerial platforms.

SkyShutter AeriCam is the most cost-efficient way to capture short range, low altitude Aerial Photography and Aerial Video. SkyShutter AeriCams only require a pilot and a camera operator – and in some cases, only the pilot is needed. Our AeriCam’s flying weight is 20 to 25 lbs, while full scales weight approximately 3,000 lbs. Consequently, we use much less fuel and number of crews, making our method thousands of dollars more economical and environmentally friendly.
